Our Community: Theatre
The Oakstone Players are a vibrant and dynamic theatre troupe that brings creativity, collaboration, and community to life on stage. Each season features two major productions—one musical and one non-musical—offering students the opportunity to explore a wide range of theatrical styles and performance experiences. Open to all students in grades 9–12, the program welcomes those interested in acting on stage as well as those who prefer to work behind the scenes as part of the technical crew.
More than just a performance group, theatre at Oakstone Academy High School is a powerful outlet for self-expression and connection. Students build confidence, develop communication skills, and learn to collaborate in meaningful ways. The shared experience of rehearsals, performances, and creative teamwork fosters strong bonds among students, often leading to lasting friendships and a true sense of belonging within the school community.
The Oakstone Players are proud members of the Educational Theatre Association and a chartered troupe of the International Thespian Society (Troupe #7799). Each year, eligible students are inducted into this prestigious organization, gaining access to exclusive scholarships and recognition. Students who achieve the distinction of Honor Thespian are recognized at graduation for their dedication and accomplishments in theatre. As the largest extracurricular activity at Oakstone Academy High School, the program is largely student-driven, with elected student leaders playing an active role in organizing and leading day-to-day activities.
Theatre Courses and Creative Development:
In addition to performance opportunities, students can further develop their passion through a variety of theatre courses. These classes range from introductory theatre to advanced acting and directing, providing students with a comprehensive understanding of the performing arts. Coursework includes script analysis, improvisation, stage and set design, and the study of both classic and contemporary theatre. This hands-on approach allows students to grow as performers, creators, and critical thinkers.
Middle School Theatre Program:
The Oakstone Jr. Players offer students in grades 6–8 an engaging introduction to theatre through an annual production each spring. This program provides a creative outlet where students can explore acting, stage production, and teamwork in a supportive environment. Uniquely, the program is supported in part by Oakstone Academy High School students, creating valuable mentorship opportunities and fostering connections across grade levels.
Middle school theatre serves as both a foundation and a launching point for continued involvement in the arts. Students gain confidence, build friendships, and discover new talents, all while preparing for future participation in the high school program.
Across all levels, theatre at Oakstone Academy is more than an extracurricular—it is a community. It offers students a space to express themselves, connect with others, and develop lifelong skills, while creating meaningful experiences and friendships that extend far beyond the stage.
