Middle School & Upper School: A Well-Rounded Experience

Middle School & Upper School: A Well-Rounded Experience

Character Education
Building character and leadership skills are a major part of the learning environment at Oakstone Academy. Once students enter their middle school years, Oakstone provides an enriched after-school program designed to improve character and leadership traits among middle and high school students. Among the character traits highlighted are citizenship, leadership, forming effective and collaborative relationships, and promoting school spirit and pride. Character education is also carefully woven into the daily curriculum for all middle school and freshmen high school students. Extra care has been taken to recognize the unique developmental needs of students in each grade level.

The Arts
Music and art instruction are a valuable complement to a well-rounded education at Oakstone Academy. Electives in band, choir and art are available to middle and high school students who perform in seasonal concerts. High school students also have the opportunity to audition for theater productions. Past performances have included: “Into the Woods,” “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” “The Spelling Bee,” and “Hello Dolly.” Younger students participate in music and art instruction as part of their core curriculum.

Sports & After School Activities
An Olympic-sized indoor pool gives our students the opportunity to participate in a variety of water sports including kayaking and swimming. Students also have an opportunity to participate in a number of team sports including girls’ volleyball, running club, cross country, swimming, boys’ basketball, track and field and girls’ softball. Middle and high school girls can also participate in the Oakstone cheerleading squads. Other after-school activities include theater, Oakappella, special interest clubs and social events like dances and organized outings to local attractions.
