Early Childhood: Preschool

Early Childhood: Preschool

Our Preschool program, serving children ages three through six, offers a rich, experience-based curriculum designed to support intellectual, language, motor, and social-emotional development. Children are encouraged to explore their world through play—touching, seeing, hearing, moving, and engaging with both their environment and peers. Through age-appropriate exposure to literature, art, music, math, science, and social studies, we foster curiosity and a lifelong love of learning.

A consistent and predictable daily routine provides children with a sense of security, helping them build confidence, independence, and respect for others. Across the school and within each classroom, teachers intentionally nurture positive interactions, cultivating a strong sense of community and belonging. With small class sizes—featuring one licensed teacher and two certified teacher assistants—each child receives individualized attention, support, and encouragement.

Program Highlights:

  • Classes meet five days per week during the school year

  • Flexible scheduling options: full-day or half-day

  • Engaging summer programs, including themed camps such as Fun in the Sun, Gym & Swim, and more

A Day in Preschool:

Play-Based Learning Centers
Play is at the heart of our program, with meaningful learning opportunities woven throughout each activity. Children engage in:

  • Dramatic Play: Imaginative settings like an ice cream shop, doctor’s office, or grocery store

  • Fine Motor Development: Hands-on writing activities, art, cutting, and technology integration

  • Problem Solving: Exploring cause and effect, self-regulation, and resolving social conflicts

  • Language Development: Retelling stories, answering questions, following directions

  • Sensory Exploration: Activities with sensory tables, bins, and fine motor tools

  • Social Skills & Time Management: Turn-taking, sharing, expressing emotions, and following routines

Academic concepts in literacy, math, science, and social studies are naturally embedded into play. Our curriculum aligns with the Ohio Department of Education’s Early Learning Standards.

Literacy Development:

  • Daily story and book time build early literacy and print awareness

  • Monthly visits from a local public library storyteller

  • Literacy-rich activities are integrated throughout the day

  • The Letter People curriculum uses songs, puppets, and hands-on activities to support pre-reading skills

Motor Skills & Movement:

  • Daily opportunities for movement through music, dance, play, and outdoor exploration

  • Use of playground equipment, obstacle courses, and interactive activities

  • Precision Teaching through the popular “Go Fast” game strengthens fine motor skills

  • Handwriting Without Tears introduces pre-writing skills through engaging, playful methods

Music & Creative Expression:

  • Music is used throughout the day to support transitions, language development, and movement

  • Students explore rhythm, tone, and pitch with a dedicated music teacher

Art Exploration:

  • Art provides a creative outlet for imagination and sensory exploration while reinforcing concepts in reading, math, science, and social studies.
