Elementary School: Curriculum

Elementary School: Curriculum
By combining empirically based, research-driven instruction with innovative teaching approaches, Oakstone Elementary School creates a balanced educational experience that builds strong foundations in reading and mathematics—while also fostering excitement and a love of learning through multi-sensory instruction and real-world applications.
The Oakstone Elementary School curriculum emphasizes academic excellence while promoting respect, responsibility, and social growth through a strong character education program. Small class sizes—typically 15 to 20 students—are supported by two licensed teachers and an instructional assistant, ensuring each child receives personalized attention and guidance. This low student-to-teacher ratio allows students to progress at their own pace, whether they need additional support or are ready to move ahead. Gifted learners benefit from the flexibility to advance through the curriculum while remaining with their same-age peers.
Our classrooms are designed to maximize engagement through ongoing small-group instruction, creating an environment where students are actively involved in their learning throughout the day. This approach encourages collaboration, critical thinking, and meaningful participation.
Community-based experiences are an integral part of the Oakstone Elementary School program. Field trips are carefully planned to enhance curriculum objectives, while partnerships with community organizations and guest presenters—such as authors, COSI on Wheels, and children’s theater programs—bring learning to life and deepen student understanding.
Character Education and leadership development are embedded into daily classroom experiences and remain a central focus. Oakstone believes in educating the whole child—academically, socially, and emotionally—by providing opportunities for students to build strong relationships and develop essential life skills. Beginning in fourth grade, students have the opportunity to participate in the Student Leadership Team, further cultivating responsibility, confidence, and a sense of contribution to the school community.
At Oakstone Elementary School, students are supported, challenged, and inspired to grow into confident learners and responsible citizens.
